Getting Started Right

Kelly Bowlin

Your first email contact with your teammates sets the tone for the first coaching appointment. The Challenge and their coaching appointments are about THEM, but participants share more when they know a bit of personal info about you. I typically send this email out after the group kickoff, which we host Sunday evenings. If a participant wasn’t able to attend, it also helps them feel part of the team right away and they can respond back with an appointment time.

When drafting your email, use short paragraphs with space in between as this is easy to read and doesn’t overwhelm the participants. Keep it concise and easy to read!

Here is an outline and some examples of a great first email to your CFC participants:

1. General welcome, introduction and bio of yourself.

Welcome to Team Green! I would like to start off by introducing myself as I’ve found if you know me a little better then the channels of communication are open a little wider! Talk about your personal relationship, how long you’ve been at your company and why you decided to choose your career, explain what else you do (teach classes, personal training, manager, etc) and finally what you like to do in your downtime.

2. Welcome the team

We have 8 people on our team! Whoo-hoo! Looking at everyone’s applications, we have a good variety of goals to work on TOGETHER! Our goals range from creating healthy eating and exercise habits, losing weight, toning muscles and increasing endurance.

3. Give accountability expectations.

The most successful teams tend to be the ones who communicate the most. Some of you have the advantage of seeing each other at work–encourage your teammates–congratulate them for not choosing junk food and moving more. Do your homework together before lunch, get everyone on your team matching water bottles, create unity.

4. Appointment time reminders and team spirit boost.

Green all the way! Randy, I’ll see you tomorrow at 3:00pm…etc

Then simply sign off with a professional signature with all of your contact information and know that you have just made an essential step towards creating your next batch of raving fans.

Tell Them WHY

Kelly Bowlin

Telling somebody why they need something is more powerful than telling them how to get it. They need to believe in the WHY first. It’s a simple concept, but one that makes a lot of sense. Here’s an example from Apple that changed their company forever: Apple used this marketing tactic with the ipod. We…
